Introduction
WHO WE ARE: Peripheral Vision PDX is a film production company and training organization dedicated to celebrating the vision, narratives, and leadership of marginalized people. Our team of creatives can help organizations tell their story in a way that represents the values and culture of all partners – and breaks the traditional non-profit paradigm of beneficiaries being the passive recipients of a non-profit’s supporters.
WHAT NEED DO WE FULFILL: Many of the organizations we work with are led by people who do not come from the marginalized communities they seek to represent and even those led by minority leadership have sometimes adopted subtle but unhealthy communication habits and cultures from the mainstream. This can lead to a well-intended but an unwittingly negative representation of those being served by an organization. This type of representation can reinforce stereotypes and power structures and unknowingly undercut the organization’s mission. In these cases, the creation of video and other marketing materials can harm the organization’s mission more than uplift it.
WHAT WE OFFER: Peripheral Vision PDX offers services to help organizations understand how their messaging, governance, organizational structure and communication can better align with their values, vision and mission. It is hard from close up to view or understand the meta-narrative and communication habits of your own organization… but we can help.
